External Bibliographic and Full Text Databases and Electronic Journals (in the library only)

For the time being, the following databases and electronic journals are unavailable.

The following databases and electronic journals are NOT available on the PCs for OPAC in the library. Please use them on the PC for databases in the library.

Rules

  • Available databases and electronic journals are different between Art Library (Main Building 3F) and Art Library Annex (Annex Building 1F) . For more details, please see the following information.
  • The following databases and electronic journals are NOT available on the PCs for OPAC in the library. Please use them on the PC for databases in the library.
  • Please note that the external bibliographic and full text databases may not be available due to maintenance and other reasons.
  • In order to print your desired articles, please fill out a Database and E-Journal Article Printout Request Form and provide it to the counter staff.
  • Please see Art Library Photocopying Instructions for more details on the printout fees.

The following databases and electronic journals are NOT available on the PCs for OPAC in the library.

ABM: ARTbibliographies Modern (1974 - )
This database provides abstracts and bibliographic records for journal articles, books, exhibition catalogs, PhD dissertations, exhibition reviews, and online documents on all forms of modern and contemporary art (including photography), which have been published since the late 1960s.

AIAP: Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals (1934 - )
This database provides abstracts and bibliographic records for journal articles on architecture, which covers not only publications of professional associations, but also scholarly and popular periodical literature.

DAAI: Design and Applied Arts Index (1973 - )
This database provides abstracts and bibliographic records for articles, news items, and reviews published in design and applied arts periodicals.

IBA: International Bibliography of Art (2008 - )
This database provides abstracts and bibliographic records for more than 500 major journals, scholarly literature, essays, conference proceedings, and exhibition catalogs on Western art including non-Western modern and contemporary art, which have been published since 2008. It is the successor to the Bibliography of the History of Art (BHA).

Arts and Humanities Full Text
This database provides full text journal and major newspaper articles on arts and humanities. Users can access the full text articles via the links on the above 4 bibliographic databases (ABM, AIAP, DAAI, IBA).

JSTOR (Available collections: Arts & Sciences I-XV, Life Sciences, Ecology & Botany II, 19th Century British Pamphlets)
The JSTOR archival collections feature the back issues of scholarly journals mainly in the humanities and social sciences. (All issues, from the first issue, are provided for every journal, up to recent years publications.)

Oxford Art Online
Users can access and cross-search the Oxford University Press's art reference works and images of art works: the Grove Dictionary of Art and the Benezit Dictionary of Artists, the Oxford Companion to Western Art, the Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, and the Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms.
※Note that this database can be accessed by only one person at a time. If another user is using the database, you cannot access it. You will therefore have to wait until they have finished using it.

National Diet Library Digital Collections (The Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Libraries in Japan)
The NDL Digital Collections enables a user to search and view a variety of resources, collected and stored by the National Diet Library of Japan.

Zassaku plus (in Japanese)
This database service is based on the "Composite index of Japanese magazine and journal articles" (120 volumes)
published by Koseisha. You can search Japanese magazine and periodical articles from the Meiji Era to the present, including articles from review magazines, literary and cultural magazines, and local periodicals (former territories included). You may also obtain full text articles using the links to CiNii in the database system.

Kikuzo II Visual
This is a database service which makes it possible to search and view Asahi Shimbun full text articles including Asahi Shimbun, Shukan Asahi, and AERA.

  1. Asahi Shimbun
    This database contains articles of the Asahi Shimbun from 1985 to the present. Full-text search is possoble. Images of the newspaper article clippings are available from November 2005 issues.
  2. Shukan Asahi (news pages, from April 2000 to the present)
  3. AERA (from May 1988 to the present)
  4. Image Database of the Asahi Shimbun Reduced-size Facsimile Edition
    This database contains full image pages of the Asahi Shimbun between 1879, when the newspaper was first published, and 1989, including adevertisements and extras.
  5. Contemporary Dictionary Chiezo
    This database contains more than 8,000 of the latest terms.
  6. Jinbutsu database (Who’s Who database)
    This Who's Who database covers a wide selection of influential people from all areas. The database contains over 33,000 entries.
  7. Historical Photo Archive (after the Manchurian Incident, September 1931, to after the defeat in war, August/September 1945)
  8. Asahi Graph (from 1923 to 1956)

Yomidasu Rekishikan
This is a database service which makes it possible to search and view Yomiuri Shimbun full text articles from the first issue to the present.

  1. The Meiji, Taisho & Showa Eras
    This database contains full image pages of the Yomiuri Shimbun between 1874 and 1989.
  2. The Heisei Era
    This database contains full text articles of the Yomiuri Shimbun from September 1986 to the present.
    Images of the newspaper article clippings are available from December 2008 issues.
  3. The Japan News (former The Daily Yomiuri)
    This database contains full text articles from September 1989 to the present of this English-language newspaper.
  4. Contemporary Who’s Who
    The database contains names and biographical data for ove 26,000 current influential people in and outside Japan.
